 Welcome to WERN website

The Welsh Education Research Network (WERN) project is joint-funded by the ESRC and HEFCW. It's purpose is to build research capacity in Schools of Education and allied departments in HE.

WERN's aim is to develop educational research capacity in Wales by building collaborative research activity between institutions in order to share skills and experience, and in so doing support each other in increasing levels of expertise. Therefore WERN offers funding to support the development of collaborative projects between institutions in Wales.

The membership of WERN comprises Aberystwyth University, Bangor University, Cardiff University, Glyndŵr University (formerly North East Wales Institute), The Open University in Wales, Swansea Metropolitan University, Swansea University, Trinity College Carmarthen, University of Glamorgan, University of Wales Institute Cardiff (UWIC) and the University of Wales, Newport.

All institutions have a representative on WERN’s decision making body, the WERN Executive.

WERN is funded by the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW) and the Economic and Social Science Research Council (ESRC) until July 2009. It is also supported by the Teaching and Learning Research Programme (TLRP) and has strong links with the Scottish capacity building initiative, Applied Education Research Scheme (AERS).
